Daylilies
Unlike roses, daylilies are definitely low maintenance. Plant and forget. They are sun-lovers but will thrive in partial shade, and bloom even if they get no more than a couple hours of sunshine a day. Planted in a mostly shady spot, a daylily plant will have fewer blossoms, but those flowers hold their color better through the afternoon. My gardens are sun-deprived, so this is my favorite flowering plant.
Daylilies make a splash from a distance and are exquisite close up. The variety pictured above and below is called "Cherry Cheeks."
